The 12 Dipsomaniac Declarations could also be described as ’12 Alternative Steps For People Who Drink a Lot of Alcohol But Don’t Consider Themselves Alcoholics and Would Like to Cut Down a Bit on Booze’.
The second description is a bit too long though, that’s why I prefer the ‘Dipsomaniac Declarations’ tag.
You can go even shorter too. Just say DD.
What are the 12 Dipsomaniac Declarations?
The 12 Dipsomaniac Declarations are alternative affirmations to the Alcoholics Anonymous 12 steps.
The DDs were written with fellow big drinkers in mind, people like me who had/have let drinking become a habit rather than an enjoyable option.
The aim of the DDs is to provide a positively worded alternative to the traditional Alcoholics Anonymous 12 steps.
It took me committing to a year of living sober to ‘come out’ as a self-confessed dipsomaniac but maybe you don’t need to take a temporary break from booze completely like I did to get something from the The 12 Dipsomaniac Declarations .
I hope you do.
Are the DDs for me?
The 12 DDs are specifically for people in the alcohol ‘grey zone’, who neither identify as a teetotaller nor as an alcoholic. Alcohol drinkers who aren’t addicted but maybe binge on booze a bit more than they know is good for them will get the most from the DDs.
The 12 Dipsomaniac Declarations
As a Dipsomaniac…
1. I accept alcohol can affect my behaviour.
2. I have the power to decide not to drink whenever I choose.
3. I am responsible for all my actions.
4. I accept all my behaviour as a natural part of my personal evolution.
5. I admit to myself and others I sometimes drink too much and then do things I might not do sober.
7. I accept the dichotomy that nobody is perfect and everybody is.
8. I release any need or desire to control others behaviour.
9. I trust others’ are on their own perfect path.
10. I express myself in the moment.
11. I accept my part in the infinity of creation, however seemingly small, is important in the universal scheme of things.
12. I share my experiences openly.
